Review: Wii U

Nintendo has come first out of the gate with a brand new console — the Wii U — officially kickstarting the next generation of home gaming.  The Wii U brings with it a new online experience, finally bumps the graphics up to full HD, and delivers a superb new Mario game ; yet, it’s the Wii U GamePad, with its range of innovative features, which really steals the show. Sony Confirms Lack of Rambus Memory Inside PlayStation 4.

21.03.13

After two generations of PlayStation game consoles relied on high-speed memory designed by Rambus, Sony Computer Entertainment has decided not to use proprietary memory types inside its next-generation PlayStation 4 video game system that will feature-industry-standard GDDR5 random access memory.

In a bit to create memory sub-system with unprecedented performance and 3.20GB/s throughput, Sony started to use dual-channel 32MB of RDRAM memory designed by Rambus in its PlayStation 2 game console back in the year 2000. Since Cell processor only supported XDR DRAM, Sony also had to use 256MB of exotic 3.20GHz XDR memory developed by Rambus in its PlayStation 3 in 2006.

Sega Dreamcast

21.03.13

The Dreamcast is a video game console released by Sega in November 1998 in Japan, September 1999 in North America, October 1999 in Europe, and November 1999 in Australia. In the first 24 hours of release 225,132 units were sold and a total of 500,000 in the first two weeks.

On January 31, 2001, Sega announced it would discontinue the production of the Dreamcast in March 2001 and concentrate solely on software. Even though the console production was discontinued, Sega of Japan still continued to sell refurbished consoles until 2007.

Only a few different models were produced over the short production-period of the console along with a few special edition models. The original released in 1999, a limited edition black model, a blue model, and in 2000 a CX-1 only available in Japan, which is very rare and considered a collector’s item. This unit had a keyboard, controller, mouse and came with a trivia game.
