Andrew Miller has Bulldogs head-ing on

25.04.13

PITTSBURGH — Yale overtime hero Andrew Miller performed his killer role in clipping the wings of the favored UMass-Lowell River Hawks in yesterday’s thrilling 3-2 national semifinal at the Consol Energy Center. But few on hand expected Miller to showcase his wares in throwback fashion.

After maintaining possession of a bouncing puck at the UML blue line and racing away to tuck a backhand shot between the legs of stellar freshman goalie Connor Hellebuyck at 6:59 of sudden death, Miller entered the postgame press conference wearing a yellow JOFA hockey helmet circa 1970s with various lettering. The helmet is presented after each Yale victory to signify a special performance.

Tales of a foreigner

25.04.13

Lou Gramm was 13 when he decided music was in his future.

Back then the boy known as Lou Grammatico played the drums and listened to the likes of Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, and, in particular, John Lennon.

It made sense why he was drawn to music. It was in his blood. His father, a trumpet player, led a big band in the 1940s. His mother auditioned to be a singer in the band. She was hired, the trumpeter and the singer fell in love, and they raised a family in Gates.

One of their children — Lou — became an international rock star. But he could have easily been a teacher, Gramm said. His father told him he needed to have a back-up plan, so the Gates Chili High School graduate went to Monroe Community College, where he majored in history and minored in art.

Institute Class – Let’s “Mormonize” Africa

This article was the subject of our Institute class last night.   I used it to demonstrate how a few can influence many.   Deng, my engineering student from South Sedan, will return home next year where he will be the only member of the church.   I told him that he can use LDS.Org and other electronic resources to share the gospel with family, co-workers and friends the same way Neil used the Internet to connect with the support he needed.   We are not alone. The last few paragraph in particular are  There are nearly seven million Mormons in America. This is the number the Mormons themselves use. It’s not huge. Seven million is barely 2 percent…
